The term « organic » is reassuring to see on packaging, but it takes the logo! Organic certification guarantees that any product sold in Quebec promoted as « organic » was produced in compliance with organic agricultural standards, as stipulated in the document « Normes biologiques de référence du Québec », issued by the Conseil des appellations réservées et des termes valorisants (CARTV). A certified-organic product differs from a regular product in its production techniques, which are more conscientious of health and the environment. For example, the use of synthetic inputs (pesticides and fertilizers) or genetically-modified seeds is prohibited. The CARTV has accredited six certification bodies authorized to grant certifications to Quebec producers :
All of our organic products bear the logo of one of these six certification bodies, certifying that our producers have obtained proper organic certification.
